The Project for a War Memorial for Woodley was born from the idea of Colin Lott a lifelong resident of Woodley; he is a retired police officer having served with Thames Valley Police achieving thirteen Red and Circuit Judge and Chief Constable commendations, a Certificate of Exemplary Conduct and a Long Service Medal.
A quote from Colin:
"Last November on Remembrance Sunday after visiting my parentsí grave, I then wished to stand next to a war memorial to pay my respects to the fallen of armed forces, present and past. I could not find a public memorial in Woodley. On discovering that Reading, Henley, Hurst, Woodcote, Swallowfield, Winkfield and many other areas have such a memorial. Woodley does not."
The aim of this project is to provide such a Memorial to commemorate all those from Woodley who fell in any of the wars and conflicts. It is a private venture by a group of like-minded individuals who will raise the funds from individuals, groups and businesses by donations and fundraising events.
